Letter from our New Chairman
Date 7th November 2018
Scoresby Football & Netball Club
Letter of Introduction
Dear Members,Supporters and Players,
I wish to introduce myself to you as the newly elected Chair of the Club and provide you some background about myself and my intentions for the future of the Club.
My name is David Renkin, I am 51 years of age and I have lived in Scoresby for 27 years. I am married with 3 Daughters and my Wife (Meaghan) has been a resident of Scoresby for the whole of her life, so I would like to believe that I can now be called a local also.
I grew up in Upwey and have been a member of The Upwey South tennis Club, Upwey Football and Cricket Clubs. I have held positions in junior coaching roles in both the Cricket and Football Clubs as well as being on the Committee for the Cricket Club as the Social Secretary. I have held qualifications as a Football trainer (AFL accreditation course), Victorian Cricket Umpire Qualification, Junior Cricket and Football Coach training.
I have been a member of the Country Fire Authority Victoria for the past 38 years and have been awarded with Life Membership of CFA along with receiving the National Medal Second Clasp and the National Emergency Medal for my involvement in the Black Saturday Fires. I have been employed with CFA for the past 28 years and I currently hold the Operations Manager Position in District 13 (Officer in Charge) which encompasses the City of Knox, Yarra Ranges, Manningham and Maroondah Council areas. I have a Diploma of Business and have numerous other qualifications in Emergency and Business Management. I currently manage a staff team of approximately 150 personnel and approximately 2500 volunteer members in 47 Fire Brigades.
Since undertaking the role as Chair of the Football & Netball Club, I have been made aware of the current situation we find ourselves in from both a financial and structural position and I am not going to try and sugar coat our position in any way, so this is the current state of play. We currently only have 2 positions filled on the Board, these being my position (Chair) and the Secretary (Administration Director) position kindly filled by Natalie Coleman. We desperately require many other positions to be filled otherwise the Club will not survive into the future.
In relation to the current financial position, the Club at present is operating with a number of extensive debts still outstanding. I wish to recognise the work of the previous Board in relation to the ATO debt, but this will still need to be addressed and paid at some stage in the future.
I am not trying to paint a picture of doom and gloom as there is light at the end of the tunnel but we need help to collectively work together to progress the Club and make is sustainable for a long time to come, so if any one of you, be you a supporter, player etc have had a thought of assisting the Club in some type of role, now is the time to put your hand up and jump on board and help, otherwise I can assure you that neither Natalie or myself can make it happen alone and I would hate to see a great Club that has been around since 1925 be no more.
So, as the theme song says, “If you’re from Scoresby, come join us, there is a welcome mat for you”.
I look forward to meeting with as many of you as I can soon and that together we can build a bright future for the club.
