President's Update

President’s update

Well, here we are at the start of the 2019 season with the first round against Mitcham been and gone, with mixed results for the club after the weekend which saw both the Under 19s and Seniors go down to Mitcham and the Reserves having a win. Unfortunately we also saw a number of injuries occur to some of our players, with the most major injury seeing Tim De Geest transported to Hospital by Ambulance with cracked ribs and a slightly punctured lung and I wish Tim all the best for a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back playing soon.   All teams played and tried their very best and will be concentrating on our next match against Templestowe away this week…Go Scores!!

Over the past few weeks there has been a hive of activity around the club to get us ready for the season with a number of events taking place prior to the commencement of the 2019 season which included the following;

March 30th Working bee.

This was well attended by club members on the day even though the weather was not the best, we accomplished a great deal on the day to get the club ready for the first round. I wish to thank everyone who attended the day and provided their assistance, it was very pleasing to see so many of you there willing to help in any way possible.

March 31st Season Launch

Again the weather was not kind to us on the day, but it was fantastic to see many of the players, members and sponsors attend and support the day to kick start the season.

April 4th Team Selection, Thursday night dinners and Netballers presentation

The attendance on the night was exceptional, where we saw the presentation of club hoodies to our Netballers, the return of Chef Richard to prepare meals with his band of helpers and the selection of teams for the first match of the season. The buzz on the night was fantastic and it really helped to kick start the club for the season. It was fantastic to see so many of the Netballers present and I wish them all the very best for a successful season and I look forward to seeing many of them around the club throughout the season on Thursday nights and on game days. Make sure we all make an effort to get down to their matches on Friday nights throughout the season and support the teams.

Thursday night meals are an important part of the club and its culture, where all members, players and sponsors can catch up in a relaxed atmosphere and enjoy one another’s company, so come along and enjoy the evening if you haven’t been before.

April 6th First round against Mitcham and Sponsors Lunch.

On Saturday, as mentioned previously, we took on Mitcham at home and had our Sponsors Lunch. The event was well attended by our Sponsors and Members, with our guest speakers being Australian Golfer Mr Marcus Fraser and ex St Kilda and Essendon player Mr Brendan Goddard and Colin Roberts who did a fantastic job in leading the discussions and questions with the guest speakers on the day. The positive feedback from many who attended the day was fantastic and enjoyed by all. To the Sponsors and Members who attended the day, thank you for your support of the Club, we would not be who we are without your help. To the kitchen staff who prepared the lunch on the day, thank you, all your efforts are greatly appreciated. To the Committee and organisers of the event, thank you for making it the well run event it was.

To all the volunteers and helpers on the day, I can’t thank you enough in what you do around the club to make it a success. You are the unsung hero’s that never seek anything in return and you consistently turn up every week to help in any way possible. Thank you Thank you.

April 13th Splendour at the Nest

This Saturday sees the first of our Social Functions for the season and it would be fantastic to see as many of you there on the night to make it a great success. I wish recognise the organisers of the event in Rebecca Hehir, Ben Bronsgesst and Josh DuVallon for all their hard work, keep up the great work team!!!

Finally, I wish to express my gratitude to everyone who has spoken to me and provided their support to me in my role and to the committee members, this is what makes this club so great to be part of and I look forward to continued success both on and off the field or court throughout the season…
