Club Statement re Season Cancellation
Dear Sponsors, Members, Supporters, Players and Volunteers,
On behalf of the Scoresby Football and Netball Club Executive, I wish to provide an update in relation to this season.
Over recent weeks the Executive have been in discussions to review the potential start to a playing season this year. These discussions have included the following areas.
- COVID 19 Social distancing rules
- Club Financial position
- Coach and Player payments
- Revenue raising ability
- Player Training
- Health and wellbeing of all members and visitors to the Club
- Costs associated with starting the season
Discussions have been held with the League and all Clubs over the past week and like our Club, all clubs in the League have had similar concerns and views in relation to having a start this late in the season and their ability to ensure the health and safety of everyone associated at their Clubs.
Having taken all the information provided, the Executive took the option of waiting for further direction from the League before we formally advised our position for the season and as such the EFNL has today provided its decision of which is that season 2020 will not go ahead in Senior Football or Netball. The League is still looking to hold a Junior Football season in a format that will be advised once known. (Further information regarding the League’s decision can be found on the EFNL website)
I know and understand that many members will be saddened by this decision and were looking forward to seeing some play this year, however given the restrictions, financial impacts and most of all the Health and Wellbeing of people, the choices were limited and done in the best interests of the Clubs and the League.
While this season may now have drawn to a close before it started, the Club has accomplished a number of significant outcome including new lights, freshly painted rooms and the completion of the Disabled toilet through its very good relationship with Knox Council, who have also provided funding to assist the Club to cover utility bills given we are not using the rooms at present and this is greatly appreciated. The Toyota good for football raffle has been taken up well by members and is a great way for the Club to raise revenue in the current environment, so if you are thinking of helping the Club financially, get on board this and raise funds for the Club.
While the Club may be closed, as we see further restriction ease, we will look to having some social gatherings at the Club this year and these will be advised when the time comes to meet and enjoy each others company once again, even though it will be different to the norm. The Social aspect of any Club is one of the main reasons we are part of it and I’m looking forward to having a beer and a catch-up with you all soon.
In the meantime, stay positive, stay safe and here’s to a better, stronger and enjoyable season 2021.
