Club Update September 2020
Dear Scoresby Football & Netball Club Members, Sponsors & Supporters,
Its been a while since my last update and I trust you are all doing well during the current restrictions due to COVID 19. It has been a difficult time for us all and many have been isolated from their families and friends for many months and we are all looking forward to some kind of normality returning in the not too distant future hopefully.
Salary Cap Changes
Recently, many of you would have seen information coming from the League in relation to salary caps and as such the players have been advised of this occurring and the Club Executive made the decision in line with the reduction to advise the players that match payments would be reduced by 1/3 to ensure the cap did not exceed the $60k allocated to Division 3 teams down from the $90k allocated for this season. Given the current situation regarding COVID 19 and the hardships being felt by many, the Executive also made the decision to reduce fees for next season for Senior Players by $50 and that Player Sponsors would not be mandatory for them to obtain due to job and business losses. Members and Sponsors that still wish to sponsor players for next season are most welcome to do so.
Name Change of the Club
At last years AGM it was decided that we needed to recognise our Netballers and their involvement in the Club and as such I can advise that the Club is now trading as Scoresby Football and Netball Club. The change also lines up with the League and its association with Netball and shows the Club’s movement forward in the inclusion and fairness space and will prove to be a great partnership and benefit for many years to come.
Coaches for Season 2021
The Club Executive are very happy to announce the re-signing of all Coaches and their Coaching Staff for Season 2021. It is very pleasing to have Kristian, Jay and Adam back on board for next season and to give them the opportunity to coach given the cancellation of this season.
In relation to the Players, it is very pleasing to hear that many players have signalled their intent to play next season for the Club and contract discussions are currently underway to ensure we have this out of the way prior to a commencement in pre-season training once restrictions allow this to occur. I am sure that you, like myself are looking forward to seeing the players back again for season 2021 and playing in the Black and White and enjoying being part of the Club.
Given the current cancellation of the season, it has been a difficult time for the Club to raise revenue, but we have been fortunate to be able to run a few virtual fundraising activities including the Toyota Good for Footy raffle and the virtual Canteen. The Good for Footy raffle raised over $3500 for the Club and I wish to thank everyone who supported us by purchasing tickets and raising this amount of money. The virtual Canteen managed to raise around $2100 and this was very well supported by many of you and I wish to recognise Mick Anderson, Harry Birkenfelds and Carly Fraser on their efforts to manage and promote this event. We have also been successful in obtaining some minor grants to assist the Club in management of the bills that keep coming in for the likes of Gas and Electricity even though we haven’t been there and the Knox Council have been of assistance in this space which is greatly appreciated. Hopefully next season we will see a return to the social events back at the Club and a big turn up to every event.
The Executive have set the date of Monday the 19th of October at 7.30pm for the AGM, obviously given our current inability to hold this meeting face to face, we are currently looking at different platforms that will support a virtual meeting and the details of this will be provided once known.
Voting rights for the meeting have been discussed at Executive level and given the inability to renew memberships for this season, it was decided that all paid up members from last season as well as the players and Life Members will be able to vote at this years AGM.
Nominations for positions are now open and these can be provided to Mick Anderson via email at firstname.lastname@example.org . All nominations will require a nominator and a seconder.

Next season will pose many challenges due to the impacts of COVID 19 and we will require all the help we can get to assist the Club to build for the future and to ensure we remain a strong viable club for many years to come, so if think you can assist in any way no matter how large of small it may be, now is the time to get on board.
