Vale Ken Gilbert

It is with sadness to hear of the passing of one of our oldest Life Members Ken Gilbert aged 97.

Ken passed away on the 27th Dec 2022 surrounded by family.

Ken played an integral part in forming the SFC in 1946. Ken was secretary while also playing in the Seniors, he won the leagues ‘goal kicking’ in the early years.

Ken was known as the ‘engine’ of the club and kept the wheels turning – he worked tirelessly behind the scenes with gate keeping, selling raffle tickets and creating the ‘Scoresby Scorpions’ social club.

In the 60s and 70s, Scoresby Football Club on a Saturday night, was the place to be. Ken and his social buddies had created a social scene that everyone wanted to be apart of – this provided a big income for the club.

He also played an integral part in the 1977, Division One Grand-final Flag against East Ringwood.

Ken was a quiet achiever. Loved by many, especially his family. Survived by his 3 daughters, Judy, Lois, Colleen and his son Jeff and their families.

Our heartfelt Condolences are extended to Ken’s family and friends.
